Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel family

I was taking a picture of the adult by its burrow and then two juveniles popped their heads up. My nature books say only the female raises the young, and that the young are not seen above ground until 6 weeks of age.
Nice shot. Had to look them up as I wasn’t familiar with them. Well spotted.

We don’t have ground nesting squirrels here in New England......they nest high in the trees. The squirrels here remind me of prairie dogs. Nice capture
