Hop leaf by atchoo

Hop leaf

As I mentioned on my previous shot I passed by a hop plant while passing through midtown yesterday… I couldn't resist picking a few hop flowers and leaves to bring home and put in a small vase, since I really like the look of them, and todays shot is of one of these leaves...
Inspired by some good advice from a fellow member here on 365 projects (thank you Peter, @peadar) I wanted to play around a bit with the leaf and its shadow. I'm only using natural light and it took a little while before I found just the right angle. To avoid casting any unwanted shadows I had taped the stem of the leaf onto one of my extra long knitting needles and then again taped the needle on a long wooden stick and had asked my husband to hold it high up in the air making the leaf hover just above the white surface - which is really just a small shiny IKEA cabinet door :-) - one must use whatever tools one can find, right :-)) ...The whole thing was rather funny, but I'm quite happy about the end result.

Gear used: Olympus OM-D E-M5 + Lensbaby Velvet 56 f1.6/56mm.
Oh, my, do you see the bird coming in for a landing? I guess I have birds on the brain...

@featherstone26 :-) I did see the birdy shadow :-)... and I took quite a few shots before I found just the right distances between the shiny surface and the leaf to get the best view of the birdy shadow :-).

Brilliant, and a Fav! I did laugh reading about your set-up - it reminds me very much of my own approach - it's surprising what one can achieve isn't it?
