An abundance of life...

My husband has cut down a couple of trees in our garden that were not healthy anymore, and the sorrounding trees and bushes needed room to grow. The cut down tree trunks are now lying on the grass and today on my daily walk through our garden I stumbled upon this little piece of bark dangling from one of the trunks... When looking at it from a distance it doesn't look like much, but when you take a closer look, it makes me think about a small biosphere from a foreign planet. On this small piece of bark (measuring around 10 x 8 centimeters) there's an abundance of life - which reminds of an article I read a while back saying that the largest study of life forms has estimated that planet Earth is home to 1 trillion species and that we have probably only identified a vanishing small proportion of them... this is mind bending... and amazing...
