Congratulations! @gladysmg It's black card with a piece of clear acrylic sheet over the top - that gives a gap between the pencils and their reflections. It's a variation on the glossy black perspex which @cornefunproject uses from time to time. Inventive curses and imprecations didn't help much, but made me feel better.
Well, thank you everybody, the response to this photo has taken me quite by surprise. I still have no idea how the PP works, but this response has gone way beyond anything I've had before, so once again, many thanks.

@ltodd On paper it doesn't sound too impressive actually, but the sensor does seem to be outstanding for its size.
