A bit of an emotional day, this. There was a peace demonstration i Oslo today, at Youngstorget ('Young's Market'), near Regjeringskvartalet ('Government Quarter') and Oslo Tinghus ('Court Hall'). The intention was to demonstrate opposition to the bombing in Oslo last year and the massacre at Utøya, and at the same time to 'take back' the song "Barn av regnbuen" ("My Rainbow Race" by Pete Seeger, translated into Norwegian by Lillebjørn Nilsen) that terrorist Anders Behring Breivik claimed as evidence of marxistic indoctrination of the Norwegian people.
I'm standing with my back to the building I worked last year when the bomb went off a couple of blocks away as I take the picture. The people made a procession up to the court hall and sang the song again outside, while Behring Breivik was listening.
@stiggle Yeah... this is something very important to a lot of people. Personally it wasn't really a question of deciding to leave work for 45 minutes to be a part of this event. I needed to be there, very strongly. So did about 40 000 others, never mind the rain.
@melissaelaime Thank you! Catching a moment like that does something to you. The picture keeps growing on me... ;-p But I guess my own emotional attachment to the event has a lot to do with it. But I'm also very glad people see what I'm trying to get accross.
@notsorandompics Thank you! Yes, it was an emotional event. I'm surprised and pleased how well this picture came out. I've been shy about taking pictures of strangers, but this time, I had to.
@sugarmuser@redrucksack Thnx! ;-) It was an important event for me, and important to catch what we all felt. Looking at this picture I feel I did something right.
