After posting my Woodsman tools photo belonging to my neighbour http://365project.org/barrowlane/365/2013-02-24 I had a contact from someone who collects billhooks. He was a particular interested in the Willis of Bramley and asked if I could send a photo of that one on its own. So today my neighbour kindly lent it to me to take a photo for him. The scale like features on the surface of it is because it was made from a rasp. Probably an old tool used by a farrier when shoeing horses. Years ago tools like this were very often made by local blacksmiths and they would put their stamp on it as this one has. clearer if viewed large.
@khirsch Yes also I think it would be nice for it to be passed on for someone to use instead of going to a collector for display. it was made for work not for show!
@barrowlane we have a lot of old tools made by my husbands great-grandfather, some of them I still use working in the garden, such as the hoe on the shot I posted on Feb 8th in my main album
