How the sausage is made.

This is how yesterday's very colorful picture of Grey Man gets shot on an ugly brown table in my basement.

On the left is an color changeable RGB LED light, which I adapted from a recessed lighting fixture unit to be light stand mountable.

On the right side is a LED light panel that I ended up not using in the final photo, in favor of hand-holding a LED flash light with a bit of colored gel over the end, which you can see on the corner of the table.

For the final photo, the overhead fluorescent light was turned off. I kept the tripod very low so I could shoot up towards Grey Man, to make him look bigger, and minimize the amount of brown table in the shot. Fortunately, the brown house paint on the table is shiny enough to reflect the color lighting at that angle, so it's all good.

The aluminum diamond plate backdrop spend a couple years as a floor mat, so it's developed a nice satin sheen you won't get with a brand new piece. It did look best when I shot with a wide aperture to blur it out a bit.
Thanks for explaining how you got yesterdays shot, I had no idea there was so much involved with it. Makes me appreciate the shot alot more.

What Stephanie said. Interesting to see how the shot was created.

Fantastic. Thank you so much for your explanations and photo of the setup. I am feeling so inspired by seeing this kind of DIY stuff. Really need to start becoming more adventurous like this myself.
