Grey Man's World, Part 2: The Desk

This is the desk where many of Grey Man's photos are taken. The ugly brown desk was left in the basement of my house when the previous owners moved out many years ago. Based on the many chips, there was white paint under the brown, and green paint under the white. My only improvement to this table is to add caster wheels, so I can scoot it out of the way when I need the floor space.

Grey Man's white backdrop in this photo (and yesterday's as well) is just a piece of white poster board clipped to a cardboard box that's been cut up to give the poster board a gentle 90 degree curve. Grey Man is lit from above by a 100w equivalent LED light bulb, in a cheap Home Depot clamp light. I cut out the bottom on one of those beer cozy things and sleeve it over the LED bulb to make it into a spot light. Yes, I tend to do things on the cheap side.

The white backdrop is also hiding a RGB LED bulb on a light stand (you can see the legs under the table) The RGB LED bulb is set to blue, and pointed at the cement wall. The front of the desk is lit by a LED light panel.

I do have large black and white backdrops I can pull down from the ceiling, but those are way bigger than what I usually need for little Grey Man. I also rather like the texture of the cement wall and frequently use that in like in this photo:

That is wonderful. Such a nice glimpse into the behind the scenes. I do love your grey man, and maybe one day I can treat myself to one!

You're giving all your secrets away! But seriously - this scene setting information is really fascinating... and useful.
