Today is the the last shot of the Temple's from Japan and from tomorrow I will share some of the people shots of the Japanese people
This is the entrance to a small temple within the grounds of the Sanjusanden-do in Kyoto. Shinto and Buddhism are Japan's two major religions. They have been co-existing for several centuries and have even complemented each other to a certain degree. Most Japanese consider themselves Buddhist, Shintoist or both.
Religion does not play a big role in the everyday life of most Japanese people today. The average person typically follows the religious rituals at ceremonies like birth, weddings and funerals, may visit a shrine or temple on New Year and participates at local festivals (matsuri), most of which have a religious background.
Love the red of this temple - really stands out among the greens. Thanks for you commentary - I enjoy learning about the Japanese culture through your photos!
The nod to religion on high days and rites of passage occasions sounds very much like what happens with Christianity here.
This is a lovely shot - I can definitely sense the light and air quality and general 'feel' of the place.
