I've been trying to get a shot of this beauty since my granddaughters spotted her a few weeks ago. I had to pull out the telephoto and a chair to shoot her up in the Tamarind tree.
I'm not sure if she is Papilio aegeus (Orchard butterfly/Citrus swallowtail butterfly)
What a stunning butterfly Sheralee - and I really like the fluorescent green leaves behind her. This is one of those photos where patience really pays off.
beautiful shot Sheralee, I got a photo in almost the same circumstance as you last year of one of these. A Red Bodied Swallowtail (Atrophaneura polydorus) I think.
And you should include this in the theme this week!
I saw this shot when you posted it and thought I'd commented; must have been distracted as I know I began to write. Anyway, yes, it's definitely an Orchard or Citrus butterfly (Papillo aegeus). You can see the underside of her wing on my shot at http://365project.org/girlie/365/2011-02-23. Your shot is a beauty. I know how hard they are to get. I took weeks to get my shot, so you've done well to get one as good as this. Mine hang around the kaffir lime tree but I can only get them when they stop to lay eggs.
Thanks so much Robin. Apparently when my g'daughters saw her she was laying eggs on one of our citrus trees. I've seen her again but the only time she stops to rest is in the Tamarind tree for some reason.
And you should include this in the theme this week!
@loriromp Thanks Lori, they are very velvety!

Thanks so much for taking the time to look an comment, it's appreciated. Butterflies are such beautiful creatures!
