@elaine55 I had looked at settings from a few people as well as recommendations I have read. I used ISO 1600 f/2.8 for 30 seconds. I lit the trees with a torch very briefly. It would have been nice to use a lower ISO and maybe I will try next time. Some at 20 seconds were fine too.
wow, fabulous shot. Not a clear sky here tonight. Very cloudy and apparently the Southern lights should be visible tonight too. My husband is so disappointed to see that it is too cloudy.
Hey that's pretty good. I'll tell you, I had trouble getting the stars in focus as well, and it looks like yours are out. Somebody told me that if you use a laser light pointer and point it up into the sky, you can focus on the end of it. It's bright enough for the AF to lock on, and the end of it is basically infinity for your lens. Of course, it's easier if you have infinity on your lens. I do not.
@adambralston That's a great tip Adam. My lens does have infinity and I thought that's where I had it but for some reason just turning it to infinity doesn't seem to be good enough. I will be trying again :)
@adambralston I've just gone out and played with the focus. Turning to infinity does not have the horizon in focus as I thought it would. If I focus on the horizon automatically it brings the focus back to the dash just before infinity. So thanks for that, you made me go and play with the focus and I think I would be right to set it manually next time. I'll have to try it tonight and see if it works.
@bella_ss Awesome. Please post it and let me know. Like I said, I'm still having troubles with that. Finding the focus is hard. Anyway, if you don't post it here, and end up posting it on flickr or something, could you still post the link? I'd be curious.
BTW, did you set to infinity and then leave your autofocus on? because, otherwise it will refocus.
