I heard them before I saw them. This family of pale-headed rosellas on our dead tree in the backyard. They are such pretty birds, I love seeing them stop by. I grabbed my camera, snapped this one shot and they were gone. I got a couple of them disappearing but they weren't sharp.
They are so pretty, we see the Eastern Rosellas at Warwick and both the Eastern and Crimsons at our Stanthorpe property. They are quite timid and wary compared with some of the brazen and cheeky parrots. Lovely capture Sheralee :)
I've seen these at bird shows (unfortunately in cages). They're so beautiful and seem like sweet birds. These here are so lucky to be wild and free to hang out in your tree if they'd like.
Wow, well done. They are so difficult to get a decent photo of as they are so shy.
We have a dead tree in our garden too and it is staying there. We can't take it out without permission from the Council and the Council charge to come out to tell us that it is dead. The tree men won't remove it without permission from the Council and then they charge $1000 to take it out. If we take it out ourselves without permission we can be fined $3000. There's logic there somewhere.
@onewing Babs, that is madness! Is it because it's a native or because it's really old? David actually put this tree here so I could shoot the birds that land on it. All birds love a dead tree. Is yours in your line of sight from the house, maybe you will catch some birds too :)
@bella_ss Actually it doesn't look too bad. It is in the centre of three other trees and yes the birds do like this tree. The trunk of the tree comes in handy too as our trailer chain is fastened around the base of it so that nobody pinches our trailer. The only problem is that every now and again (like after last nights terrific storm) some of the limbs fall and land on our cars. No bad damage so far though and our Subaru's are pretty tough.
The tree was a blackbutt and a few years ago the underground sewer was blocked on the property next to us and the Council came out to fix it. I think they cleared out tree roots and put down root killer and that is what killed off the tree.
We did have to have 3 trees removed a few years ago which were within the 3 metre limit of the house and were taking up the pavers, but what a performance that was.
