We went for a flight over Lake Ayre and as we left Coober Pedy we had this fabulous view of all the opal mines. It seems they just dig holes all over in search of the beautiful stone. They have signs posted for the unsuspecting which look pretty funny.

Around here if we see ground that looks like this we suspect moles or other tunneling varmints to be present!

They look like little hills. Is that were people have been digging dirt out? Funny sign too.

@skstein Yes Sandy, that's where they are mining for opals. It was quite a sight from above.
