Not Just a Box of Rocks

I collected rocks as a young child and was especially fascinated by the pieces of quartz that were mixed in with the gravel of the parking lot at the microwave tower where my Dad worked for AT&T Long Lines. He encouraged my interest and we spent a lot of time at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History in the geology section and I would come home with a new stone, crystal, or fossil from the gift shop to add to my collection.

About a year ago when I found a local rock shop, I was inspired to restart my childhood hobby.. Besides the Labradorite piece I shared here the other day, I've got a large polished palmstone of Chrysoprase, several bits of amethyst, Selenite, Carnelian, Lepidolite, Jade, Opalite,Kanatite, Howlite, and a fossilized whale tooth, along with several others that I'm still working on identifying.

When I look at these specimens, I love the colors and the textures of the pieces, but most of all, I love the memories I have of my Dad indulging me and encouraging my hobby all those years ago.
