Mount Alvernia - Empty Chapel Pews

Decades ago, every space in these pews was needed to accommodate the Sisters who worshiped at the Motherhouse's chapel at Mount Alvernia. Today, the ambulatory elderly nuns still worship here daily, while those who cannot handle stairs are wheeled to the old choir loft, which is on the same level as the convent's medical facility, to participate as they are able. As their numbers dwindle due to aging and death, and no new, young religious women arrive to take their place, the chapel grows emptier and the only thing increasing is the number of headstones in the Sister's graveyard.
