The Britannia Bridge is a bridge across Menai Strait between the island of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales .D designed and built by Robert Stephenson on a tubular bridge of wrought iron to carry rail traffic following a fire in 1970 it was rebuilt and was reopened as a two tier Bridge , the first tire to Carry rail traffic and the second tier to carry road traffic.
We went over to the island of Anglesey today. To Llanfair PL (photo tomorrow ) and then to Beaumaris before returning to the mainland of Wales this time. Over the Menai Suspension Bridge built by Thomas Telford
This is a photo of the Menai Bridge Beryl, not the Britannia Bridge. the Britannia Bridge is off to the right of this picture.
I crossed over the Menai Bridge many many times when we lived on Anglesey during the 1970s. My eldest daughter was born in Bangor and we lived at Caergeiliog when we were at RAF Valley.
@onewing thanks baby -- you are correct -- I had taken a photo of both bridges and posted the wrong one ,but I fink the Menai suspension bridge is the priciest of the two We went over the Britain a to Anglesey and back to the mainland to Bangor over the Menai Bridge !! I should know the difference having lived in Bangor for over 3 years during my student days !!
