The hottest day we have had so far I think and our last on the beach. We scarcely emerged from under the umbrellas and Janet spent much of the time with wet towels over her to cool down.
These beach sellers wander up and down all day in hope of selling sarongs or beads. They have a hard time from the tourist police who arrest them if they can catch them. One of the girls told us that they no longer bother to pay the standard bribes to the police as they just take the bribes and still arrest them and confiscate their stock. It's a hard way to make a living.
Just done a little playing with levels and a small crop. The light was very bright and bleached out the background, but I rather liked the effect.
It's a beautiful shot - she's very thin though. It's time they got a grip on corruption in India - I know there are some women's initiatives where they printed up 0 rupee notes to hand over!
@judithg Corruption is such a way of life that it isn't seen as that by many people, so I can't see it changing any time soon, unfortunately. Yes, this girl looks thin, but I think she looks healthy. Many people are naturally thin. The undernourished people tend to have greyer skin tone and look much less vigorous.
@wlwdflwr I found somewhere to buy loose seed beads at ridiculously low prices compared with the UK, so stocked up massively. I made the most of my 46kg baggage allowance - there are some advantages in flying Air India!
