Release

We gathered at the park in Chase, KS, for a candlelight vigil and service for Avery, my great niece. The little boy in the foreground looking up is Avery's big brother, Walon, releasing balloons in honor of his little sister. There is a beautiful sequence of photos of the release of the balloons, some perhaps technically better than this one--but this one tell the story of the gathered community of support, surrounding this family with love and shared grief. This small community has been wonderful in its support for the whole family, and it is deeply appreciated.

Tomorrow afternoon at 4pm, CST, there will be a memorial service. Jimmy and Marsha asked me to speak in the service. I can't adequately express how what it means to take part in a moment like this and to know that they entrust this to me. It will be hard. I love them very much and I hurt for them. It is hard to even type that.

I appreciate your kind words, prayers, and support for all of us. There is something special to me to know that there is support from all over the world, even if it is from a relatively small group of people. Thank you all.

Balloons are such a good idea! This is a time when the neighbourhood forget little matters and come together to provide support for those who do matter

Love your title - it's so fitting. Your image captures her youthful spirit. It's a great concept for the whole community be a part of. You have such a empathic, eloquent way with words that I'm sure your contribution will be perfect. Strength to you and everyone who knew her.

It's a wonderfulopportunity to share in this manner, but I must agree, it is going to be tough. I think somehow you will find that inner strength you need to accomplish it. Prayers continue through this tragic loss.

What a meaningful part of such a difficult day. I'm sure your words were welcomed by the family and the community though it can't have been easy by any means. Continuing to think of you.
