The street organ .. by bintal

The street organ ..

Today we went to the city of Leeuwarden and came across this street organ, called "De Fruitschalen" (the Fruit Dishes). It was built in 1926. I have happy childhood memories of sitting on the back of the organ with my friends, hitching a ride while it went through our street. Then it was still being pulled by two horses. Now it is mounted onto a truck, not the same somehow ..

Thank you very much for getting yesterday's photo on the TP and PP. I really appreciate all your comments and favs.
Great find. The Dutch community here in Edmonton has one of those

What a beautifully ornate piece of history. I agree with you about the difference between horse-drawn and trucks. I used to hitch a ride in the baker's cart way back when.
