Hi Barb, I’m afraid my camera is the one to ask about this shot! I must admit I love my canon sx 70 hs zoom camera. I didn’t do anything special, I used automatic with it being such a long shot, I should have had it on a tripod but it was only hand held, it was also very bright so that’s why the shot took, otherwise this cameras draw back is it doesn’t like the dark but I’m happy to overlook that fact because it’s used mainly in daytime shooting! The only thing I can suggest is to put your camera on a tripod or somewhere stable and just try different settings. You may not get such a close shot but it will give you an idea of what your camera is capable off. I know I wouldnt get such good results with my canon 650 because it’s lens is just not capable of that sort of zoom. My zoom camera is my favourite by far, hope it helps you a little

@craftymeg Thank you for the input, Margaret Brown! I have Googled the question and found some helpful (?) info on best camera settings, etc., such as the ISO to use (100), f-stops (11-16) and shutter speeds (no less than 1/125), and manual focusing. We'll see... I had absolutely no success this morning. :-( What I can't understand is why, a few years ago with a Nikon CoolPix, I got some halfway decent moon photos and this new camera of mine was way more expensive, and yet, I haven't figured out what I need to do. Oh, well! The moon is full or nearly so every month, so I will just keep trying. :-) Thanks again for your reply!
