Rail Days.....The Early Days

I know there are a number of my 365 friends with an interest in railroads. So I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of Edmonton's railroad history.
The first railroad company in Edmonton was the C & E Railway.
The Calgary & Edmonton Railroad Company was incorporated in 1890 and in 1891 arrived in the south side of the river in what was then known as South Edmonton.
They built a station and across from it a hotel for guests to stay in.
The hotel still stands and is in operation today.
The station was torn down but this is a replica of it and today runs as a museum
Awesome picture.

The main rail runs right through Edmonton though, doesn't it? It is an important stop in what used to be called, 'The Canadian Pacific Railway"!

How interesting. It isn't built like most stations. I thought it was a regular house until I noticed the big X crossing mark.
