Masonic Hall in Black and White by bkbinthecity

Masonic Hall in Black and White

Located downtown is the Grand Masonic Hall. It was built in 1931 at the cost of $170,000. Interesting footnote, there used to be a funeral home located right next door to the hall and Melody's Dad played there as organist for over twenty years.
That's a large hall- it must have been quite popular. Good shot!

This looks like it could be a Masonic Temple........ he architecture, etc. I've seen a few with my Dad when I was a kid. Dad was a Mason and then a Shriner. Melody's parents are surely talented. I've seen that on some of your photos! Do either Melody or you play any instruments?

Masons used to be such a driving force, but they are very low-profile today. Interesting building and history, especially with the personal connection.

@aglennc Neither of us play an instrument. Melody's parents tried to teach her but with her left side affected by a mild case of cerebral palsy it made it very difficult. I did try learning the saxophone in junior high school

i enjoyed catching up on your recent pics. you REALLY need to do a book of edmonton sites. years from now, people will love to see your collection showing off the lovely buildings together with the history.
ps. i use Blurb to make books for my granddaughters. it's easy to use and after you make the first book, you get great reductions on subsequent books - just wait for the regular sales that pop up.
