The Alberta Hotel by bkbinthecity

The Alberta Hotel

Continuing from yesterday's post. This is the Alberta Hotel that was built in 1903. In its day it was a fine establishment. So much so that Prime Minister St. Laurent stayed here in 1905 when Alberta became a province in 1905.
The hotel closed in 1984 and was painstakingly taken apart to make room for Canada Place and the pieces preserved.
In 2010 Architect Gene Dub decided to rebuild the hotel and today it is home to CKUA Radio station and a lovely little bistro
Awesome picture.

What an interesting bit of history. I can't imagine "deciding to rebuild" a hotel and actually having all the pieces to do so.

Thanks to the architect for tebuilding this gem. Lovely story.I wish that buildings like this are put to good use and not just demolished to make way for the ugly appartment blocks they build today.
