At the north end of the Fourth Street Promenade is The Mercer Warehouse which was built in 1911 by John B. Mercer to house his cigar and liquor business. He was the northern representative for the Calgary Brewery Company.
It was originally four floors but in 1922 a fire destroyed the top two floors. When it was restored it was made only three floors with an extension on the south end of the building.
Today it is home to the Mercer Tavern as well as Tres Carnales restaurant and a coffeehouse in the basement.
The top floor is home to Startup Edmonton. A business that help people get started in businesses of their own.
This across the street to the Neon sign museum
So nice to see parts of Edmonton that I have not seen before and learn some of the history of these areas. Look - no snow or ice in the middle of January!
So different to the surrounding buildings! There are buildings like this here in Liverpool, when we visited a couple of years ago, we stayed in an old warehouse that is now a hotel. So many old features & really interesting!
A lovely shot and so much great info.
