Ring Road Houses by bkbinthecity

Ring Road Houses

Well our deep freeze temperatures are over and we are now having very warm weather. So l decided to go for a walk around the U of A campus.
I started at the Ring Road Houses. These four homes built as early 1912 were originally home to Professors at the University. Over time they were used for different purposes by various facilities.
They were decommissioned last year and are now facing demolition as the University says the costs to convert them into useful buildings are simply more than they are willing to spend.
They want to turn the area into green space for students.
There is a petition going around trying to get University leaders to reconsider their plans.
Only time will tell what happens. I decided it was worth getting pictures of them while l can
Nice shots for the collage.

Your very warm photos seem cold to me, but I do like the angle of sunlight on your snow scenes.

Lovely homes... green space sounds great though and students would likely love that.
February 21st, 2021
Hopefully they'll be saved. It's too easy to tear down history.

It would be sad to loose some history. Great capture of the four homes.

Pretty winter collage.
February 21st, 2021
Nicely captured - I would hate to see that happen. When I went to visit my old campus several years ago, an entire block of homes once belonging to faculty had been made into a parking lot - very sad.

Nice collage of these houses, it’s such a shame they can’t be saved.
February 21st, 2021
What a shame- I hope someone is able to prove them wrong. With all the need for housing in some many places it seems like a bad decisions to destroy houses. Not to mention if they were built in the early 1900's some of the wood and other decorative elements are probably quite valuable. You've made a nice collage of them here.

February 21st, 2021
Well done to get photos of them for posterity. I think it is sad that so many old character homes are demolished.
February 22nd, 2021
It is too bad that remodeling/renovating is so expensive. Many old buildings with character and style end up being demolished.
