Well our deep freeze temperatures are over and we are now having very warm weather. So l decided to go for a walk around the U of A campus.
I started at the Ring Road Houses. These four homes built as early 1912 were originally home to Professors at the University. Over time they were used for different purposes by various facilities.
They were decommissioned last year and are now facing demolition as the University says the costs to convert them into useful buildings are simply more than they are willing to spend.
They want to turn the area into green space for students.
There is a petition going around trying to get University leaders to reconsider their plans.
Only time will tell what happens. I decided it was worth getting pictures of them while l can
Nicely captured - I would hate to see that happen. When I went to visit my old campus several years ago, an entire block of homes once belonging to faculty had been made into a parking lot - very sad.
What a shame- I hope someone is able to prove them wrong. With all the need for housing in some many places it seems like a bad decisions to destroy houses. Not to mention if they were built in the early 1900's some of the wood and other decorative elements are probably quite valuable. You've made a nice collage of them here.
