I've been at the shelter pulling for rescues for two days. I've pulled a pregnant Beagle, 4 kittens, a very senior chihuahua, a chihuahua with horrible mange, 2 Border Collie mix pups, a Doxie mix, a Collie mix, and a Lab mix. They told me that today they were picking up 6 shepherd/lab mix pups and I couldn't stand thinking of them left there when I had a sterile quarantine room available, so I decided they had to get out. But when I got there only two were there, the others were given away or lost on the way to the shelter...how do you lose puppies? So anyway I took these two little boys and named them Drake and Griffin which I thought were good strong names which they will need. I have sterilized everything a hundred times but did I do enough? In a perfect world, I wouldn't have puppies for 6 months to a year after having any illness on the premises, but puppy fosters are very rare and we do what we have to do sometimes. So they are stashed in a sterile room and I am sterilizing everything that goes in with them and crossing my fingers we can make it through ok. If they had stayed at the shelter for another day or two they would have been almost certain to get sick...but now they have a chance and vet care available. I am instantly in love with tiny Drake and Griffin. As always...my prayers go with all the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens left behind who will not see another night after this one. So many beautiful babies will be lost tomorrow. Rescue is never very happy, but Drake and Griffin are a very bright spot in my day.
As always I am touched by your commentary. You are so strong and you do all you can do, which is so much more than most of us will ever manage! Good luck to Drake and Griffin, great names! Sort of Harry Potterish!
