Been a long day for him, think he got chased off by another squirrel and he only came from next door at lunch time (I could hear him squeeking), but after that he settled real quick, eating nuts and grapes on and off all day. He wont, sadly, drink formula milk.
I realised eventually (doh!) the reason behing him always wanting to snuggle under my coat, was he was after extra warmth. So I donated my wheat pack and hot water bottle to alternate heat sources. The squirrel instantly curled up and went to sleep and has been dozing & playing for the rest of the day! I really dont want him to get used to humans beyond food so this has been a relief.
This was the squirrel today... just changed his heat pad (its 11pm) and hopefully thats him warm and safe for the night. My lovely other has lined the box to keep the heat in, and he's a handful of grapes in with him to hopefully keep him going over night. Seems to love those.
Fingers crossed for night number 2!
Oh Freida, this is such good news, and so good of you to share more pictures of the little guy we've all taken to our hearts. Even though it didn['t work, I'm glad to see you gave the formula a try. Let's hope he's old enough that with your loving and nurturing care he's got a good mother substitute. You can tell how much he's loved...both his pictures are on the popular page. Those monkeys know we "need to know"...thank you monkeys! Thank *You* Freida...Love you little squirrel!
:-) did you try a tiny bottle for the formula? They have them for kittens and puppies here on the pet aisle, not sure about where you live.
I understand you want to keep him wild but he's just so darn cute!! I would have to snuggle with him. I used to have a boyfriend whose father raised orphaned squirrels. If you need any info I could always ask him and see what he knows.
Ok I asked the ex just in case, he says puppy formula, 2 parts water to 1 part formula and that they used a medicine dropper to feed it. That's just in case he starts to get skinny or seems dehydrated. :-)
