Doesn't this house look so happy!
This house was slatted for demolition but was saved from ruin and donated to the Taliesin West School of Architecture. This was one of the last houses that Frank Lloyd Wright designed. His son and wife lived in this house for nearly 50 years and the interior is still quite intact.
An interesting side note: balloons will pop once temps hit 100F. Every two minutes, a loud bang would go off from a balloon popping. I don't think that anyone thought that was going to happen. We got to the house at 1130a, and the temp was 101F...and popping!
What a delightful sight! I'm so glad the house was saved from demolition! We only have one Wright house in Oregon (it's very modest) and it was saved & moved to a location where people can appreciate it.
@cathieg That's good to hear! This particular building was/is in somewhat poor condition....it was abandoned for a few years and the roof leaked and there is a lot of water damage on the ceiling panels. Something for architecture students to work on for sure!
Great story and photo! We have a Frank Lloyd Wright building in our location - used as a bank for many years. Just love all those balloons - I'll bet Frank would have too!
Excellent. Love that the house was saved from demolition. Love the balloons too, very cool. Interesting side bit on the balloons too. Never knew that 🎈🎈🎈
I would have loved to visit - read the book and loved his style of architecture! If I had the money I would have styled a new house for us in exactly that way! How could they even think of demolishing it!
Performance Art and architectural genius. A phenomenal combination. It still amazes me that such short-sightedness still exists. I under stand historical structures require maintenance and money but to loose this would be nothing short of a crime. Fav!
