My new normal at work by blueberry1222

My new normal at work

Trying like hell to not catch coronavirus. What America needs is more testing. I hate not knowing who I'm scanning. So many patients are still waiting for their COVID-19 test results, yet we have to scan them for pneumonia before their results come back.
Boo
keep safe

@joysabin As long as we have the personal protection supplies, we should be fine, but once those run out, I might not show up to work anymore!

@kali66 not gonna lie...it's really quite scary over here and we're one of the least infected cities so far....but that will change soon enough. I'm serious, once we run out of supplies, that'll be it for me. Hospital workers are dying because they are running out of the face mask that I have on in this picture. We already had to lock up our limited supplies of those masks. Technically, we need to throw them away after wearing it around a Covid patient...but half the time we don't even know who they are. It's scary stupid, to say the very least, and it makes me mad that something so simple as a mask is the reason why people are dying. Also...there is a hospital in town where the nurses are SHARING masks already.

@blueberry1222 Krista - you're in an insane situation, it's scandalous that you should have to work under these conditions. I'm praying that reason will come to the rescue...
March 27th, 2020
no sense in being a martyr when the system is not going to support you, i keep having the REM song 'the end of the world as we know it" going through my head.
March 27th, 2020
So scary for you, hope you can stay safe.
March 28th, 2020
Thank you, and stay safe
March 28th, 2020
I hope all the hospitals start receiving huge shipments of masks. It does seem insane .... thank you for all you are doing

March 28th, 2020
This situation is untenable and there isn't enough praise for all the people like you who do all they can to provide necessary care while putting themselves in harm's way! Please know that you ARE appreciated!
March 29th, 2020
I am SO, SO sorry to hear this...please, take care of yourself !

the first death attributed to covid in NZ happened in my town! exactly this scenario, the health professionals were wearing their gear, decided it was regular pneumonia, then found out it was covid day before she died, but they had not been wearing their eye protection, so now 21 staff need to stand down for 14 days. NZ has been concentrating on testing people with known connections to overseas travel, but this lady didnt, seems the tests are not always reliable, or needs retesting a few times.

@kali66 yup, that sounds way too familiar to me. So sorry to hear that happened to the hospital staff. I've been seeing that happen over and over again at my hospital and I have even yelled at a nurse for not wearing protective gear after I scanned her patient and saw the telltale signs of covid. She refused to believe me and she said that the patient already coughed once in her face. I am treating every patient now as covid and I wear everything all the time, around everyone, even nurses and doctors. I even wore a mask today when I ran to the store.

i know this is twee as we say in the UK, but thank you for what you are doing. I want to wrap you in a big virtual hug! My cousin is just recovering from Covid-19, but he is living with the guilt of giving it to his 80'something parents (my aunt and uncle)...my uncle has been sleeping in an armchair to ease his breathing, but he is getting better. Everyone in the US, really needs to understand the fact of stay at home, go to the grocery store only when you know you need stuff, you know the drill...just do it!
