Come Fly with Me by bobfoto

Come Fly with Me

Had a great day cleaning up after the cyclone... the garden is starting to look better. But there were some pretty cool bugs and birds but this guy won 365 honours for today.
Gorgeous wings Jason. Hope the cleanup is progressing apace.

February 6th, 2011
This is magnificent Jason - no wonder he won 365 honours for today. This is a magical macro. The wings are like leadlight windows and the colours in his body are great. I love this.
February 6th, 2011
fingers crossed you have power soon.. great dragonfly.. do you know how to paint a dragonfly ? just curious.. ;-)
February 6th, 2011
@buggus - No Oleta, we have a river nearby where there are a few Frogmouths so we think maybe the night of the Cyclone, he was blown out this way... maybe he has found shelter back by the river???

@tesia - thank you Tesia :)

@murnane - Cheers Marg, it was a tough decision, but the definition in this one won the day!

@robynelizabeth - maybe tomorrow? maybe the Silence of the Generators will start tomorrow?

and Robyn, someone once asked me "Why Photography?" and my response was simply "I cannot paint".

@russianblue - I never tire of taking their photos either. :)

@rbobh69 - thank you Bob, we are doing well after the big blow and the clean up continues. I have never seen the town so full of tired and weary bodies...

@aj1268 - Thank you Paula, often with such a short f-stop you can get too much dof with Dragonflies, so at this angle more than usual is in focus :)

@jennarichards - Jenna, it was the green that did it for me too!

@flamez @faelwen @lmasinton @exposure4u - Thank you very very much :)
February 7th, 2011
Brilliant dragonfly. I just can't get one to stay still long enough for me.
February 7th, 2011
@girlie - this one was still for 0.004 of a second. Enough time for me :)

February 10th, 2011
Wonderful macro shot! I love the sharp details.
February 11th, 2011
@emeraldboots - why thank you Jill, although its not a macro... it was my telephoto lens from a few yards away! :)
February 11th, 2011
@bobfoto wow pretty impressive for a telephoto lens.
February 11th, 2011
@emeraldboots - The Olympus 150 - 300mm is a fantastic lens, very versatile, I've used it for quite a few of these macro-like images, plus have used it for portraits and of course long-distant birding shots. My aim is to get the Oly 300mm prime but that costs a few greens!
February 11th, 2011
@bobfoto I have that lens but not used it as much and only got it recently so need to practice more with it. I am very impressed. Will take photos of tree later when I get home. Have your got your power back yet?
February 11th, 2011
@emeraldboots - yes we have, electricity was restored last wednesday, exactly one week after it went out, to the minute!

I find with the 300mm, I will get my aim at the 150mm length, focus in, and then zoom to fill the screen, while manually focusing. You will find you can focus on leaves, flowers, spiders from around 4ft away!
February 11th, 2011
@bobfoto I will try that this weekend and maybe on the tree later!
February 11th, 2011
Awesome focus!! I don't know how people manage to get photos of dragonflies, they're always too quick for me.
February 21st, 2011
@amz87 - Zen and the Art of Dragonfly fotography... its a book that needs to be written.
