the Evil 'bird by bobfoto

the Evil 'bird

count 'em... 1, 2 miss a few, 27, 28... yup 28 spots on this 'ere 28 Spotter Ladybird.

Pure evil...

but check out the spikes on the Eggplant leaf?!?!?

your photos are amazing!
March 18th, 2011
wow!!
March 18th, 2011
Why is 28... pure evil?
Great shot, the colours are really cool
March 18th, 2011
@dcr - yeah... but cuteness can equal nastyness too!

@littlec - thank you littlec :)

@trude - thanks.

@frameit - 28 spotters eat your plants... vegies... fruit and stuff. Normal sweet ladybirds are predators and eat aphids and thrips, whereas 28 spotters are just as bad as your plant enemies!
March 18th, 2011
I did not know about the 28 spotters - i'll be counting spots every time I see a lady bird from here on in. Great macro - and look at those spikes! If it's any consolation, I suspect this little 28 spotter might be in a whole world of anxiety trying to dodge the spikes.
March 18th, 2011
cute!
March 18th, 2011
@murnane - sorry Marg, these spikes don't keep the 28 spotters at bay... they just keep on chewing!

@wahyusp - thanks Wahyu :)
March 18th, 2011
Great macro - it almost looks furry. good focus on the spikes
March 18th, 2011
I can't believe that! I took a photo of this awful fellow on my Angel's Trumpet today! I wanted someone to confirm that it was the bad guy, you just have, lol. Damn! Good shot by the way.
March 18th, 2011
@difeeney - thanks Diana, I think they are furry!

@bella_ss - Cheers Sheralee, they are deceptive little ladies!
March 18th, 2011
Wow, great macro! I have never seen this kind, even did not know hairy versions exist!
March 18th, 2011
@scatcat - thank you Muse :)
March 18th, 2011
Armed and ready for battle! Your insects are always such characters!
March 18th, 2011
@moira - thanks Moira! #:0)
March 18th, 2011
It's looking at you, and it knows you know it's evil..... incredible photo.
March 18th, 2011
Fantastic focus. I thought it was pollen he was crawling through until I read. Either way it's awesome detail--- little furry thing!
March 18th, 2011

March 18th, 2011
Excellent detail.. looks slightly fuzzy.
March 18th, 2011
Wow! These here are the enemies? Yeah, they sure don't look like the ladybugs I'm familiar with! (and not as cute either!)
Great shot,btw!
March 18th, 2011
Amazing detail on both the ladybug and the leaf! Excellent shot!
March 18th, 2011
What a cutie pie! She's going to get a sticker in her foot if she's not careful..
March 18th, 2011
very cool. The detail is amazing. I am forever inspired by your photos. Plus I learned somethig new about lady birds, we call them lady bugs and I'm not sure I have any evil ones, but you never can be too sure.
March 18th, 2011
Never knew what these little ladies looked like up close. Wow! A fav!
March 18th, 2011
Amazing DOF and shot.
March 18th, 2011
@mimma_blue @callalilla @swilde @clarissajohal @myla @bremi @roejan @buggus @lmasinton @aj1268 @maggie2 - oh thank you thank you, such lovely comments and funny too, I like the sticker comment :D

Just before taking this shot, I had been inching closer and closer and as focusing on this one, the little ladybeetle flapped her wings, in readiness to take off. She did that twice and I was hopping to capture her with her wings in motion or even at lift off stage, but she was too quick... either that or I was too keen to watch her take off instead of depressing the shutter???
March 18th, 2011
ewe-it does look evil! No brain no pain?? Those spikes look like they hurt! Nice focus work and great color.
March 18th, 2011
@hillcrest - thanks Cheryl, to us those spikes are just teeny-tiny hairs...

March 20th, 2011

March 21st, 2011

Ahh so THIS is the evil ladybug! Nope, don't see the evil there lol.
April 8th, 2011
@amz87 - she is a master of deception. don't let the cute orange shell fool you. Just count the spots.
April 8th, 2011
Well I've learned something new today. I don't think we have those here but I'll probably end up with OCD or something counting spots now that I know about the 28-spotter....
Did flashback as I wanted to send a quick message... don't know if you've seen any of the work of Amaya Williams, she is biking her way around the world (as you do) and some of her shots are great. Thought of you as I was looking today and thought if you hadn't seen her stuff I should point it out. I'm following her so you could find her on my list if you fancied a peek - her tag is world biker or something like that. Hope you're having a good sleep :)
July 22nd, 2012
@filsie65 - I have seen Leana Niemand's project as she is cycling around the World. Her blogsite is at least 12 years in the making now and is well impressive to see where she has travelled... but will have to check out Amaya now.
July 22nd, 2012
@bobfoto Ah! Morning! I can't imagine anything like cycling around the world... in all honesty it's quite an effort to go cycling around the village! But how could anyone afford it, have time for it, energy for it?! Amazeballs. Is Leana Niemand on 365 too?
July 22nd, 2012
@filsie65 - Leana is, her 365 Project is based on her travel throughout Brazil, and into Colombia, and I think she is Ecuador now. Her blog shows her story through Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia.

@bobfoto Oh my gosh.... I had no idea and had never come across any of her stuff before. So glad you told me (now there's an irony!) her journeys and experiences are wonderful. What an amazing time I've spent looking at her stuff. Makes me feel very inconsequential.
PS Do you ever sleep?! :)
July 22nd, 2012
@filsie65 - with irregularity and only when tired.
