Sun i kamap lo Tavurvur

One morning I thought I'd get all arty with the Volcano. Patrick the Starfish here obliged by sitting on the sand while I took some DOF shots... Good thing the sun was rising behind me and that made those clods look kinda cool.

Love Volcano shots... have I said that before?

Photo taken 26 August 2008. This month is nearly over, roll on September!
WOW!......This is just magnificent!....A must Fav Jason! : )

You have said that before. ;) But I love your volcano shots too and I love this lonely little star here too. Nicely done.
August 27th, 2012
Beautiful view.
The composition is great, the sea star, the volcano, the reflection of the clouds, there's a lot to see !
August 27th, 2012
There are good looking clods, and Tavurvur. looks like she has just spewed as well!
I looked at the exif info, and I thought you needed a bif f number to get everything in focus, but also noticed it was only 14mm, so that is a wide angled lens?
August 27th, 2012
wonderful comp and reflections, Thank you Patrick for playing along.
August 27th, 2012
So beautiful! Magnificent shot.
August 27th, 2012
Awesome capture! Very handy of Patrick to pose in the perfect spot for you, just as the Sun lit the clouds so nicely :)
August 27th, 2012
@annbo - Oh thank you Ann, and thank you for the fave!

@geocacheking - Cheers Cam, I think I may have frisbee'd the star back into the ocean after this shot!!!

@cocobella - Why thank you Corinne :)

@onie - I remember this shot, it was just my kit lens, the 14-42mm. I aimed at the star, focused, held the button half way down and then re-composed to fire the shot. I can't recall why I chose such a weird f-stop value though....

@tigerdreamer - Patrick is always a good help!
August 27th, 2012
@bluebell - Thanks Bluebell :)

@alia_801 - Patrick was in no rush...

@judithdeacon @boatpainter @shamrockinmom @sludgster - oh thank you oh so much ladies, especially for the faves. August 28th, 2012
@Cherrill - oh thank you Cherrill, that is ever so sweet of you to say that! Thanks!
August 28th, 2012
@bobfoto Sounds like a great place to spend an hour or two. Not a bad price for a T-bone in that remote place.
August 28th, 2012
I think my translation of the last sentence is a lot wonky. Some words seem to come up twice and change translation, and yes, I looked. See what I found (it's not youtube). http://www.june29.com/hlp/lang/pidgin.html Google, however, does not translate. Care to give me a quick lesson on sentence structure and syntax?
August 28th, 2012
Oh... being that I simply love to learn, especially about humanity, culture, and the human condition, I will most definitely enjoy your stories and experiences, as well as take something from them. :D
August 28th, 2012
stunning Jason, love the starfish - Fav
August 28th, 2012
beautiful shot... if you like volcano shots I have 2 here in my albums... one was quite recent, last sunday and the other one I would have to check... let me know if you would like to see it... it is actually from the crater of the volcano.
August 28th, 2012
@tonydebont - It is a fine price and they moved maybe 30 of them last night!

@wardie - Cheers Paul, thanks for the fave :D

@hellcat - More likely that my Tok Pisin is spoken like a Bush Kanaka, so kinda what I said was "I like how you said somin' somin'. I'm thinking you'd be alright one time in PNG"
August 28th, 2012
@carrapeta00 - Oh yes please... I will check later, off to get some breakfast.
August 28th, 2012
I don't know, it said "pidgin" so maybe it's a different dialect all together? Just once? :D I think it would be fun... but I'm not sure I'd stop hugging people, which might be problematic.

Last semester I met a girl who was raising money to go volunteer in PNG. That was entirely random.
August 28th, 2012
@hellcat - Pidgin is what us white guys call it, but there are many Creole languages used through Melanesia and Polynesia and into SE Asia which were developed for Seamen and Explorers and Merchants throughout the ages. Oh and Missionaries. But Tok Pisin or PNG Pidgin is no longer considered a creole language but a lingua franca I believe. That and the Motuan language of the Papuan people.

It is funny here on Thursday Island, they speak a creole language which I can understand, but when I speak Tok Pisin (very similar) they look at me like, we can understand you but you is speaking a different version, and they often say "where did you learn to speak like that?" It might also be because not many Government People just show up and start talking the language without living here at least. Or so they tell me.
August 29th, 2012
Beautiful photo!
August 29th, 2012

August 29th, 2012
@acousticlover @mornegrewe - Thank you Anya and thank you Morne :)
August 29th, 2012
This is so awesome. Favd
August 29th, 2012
Ha ha! I'm sure they love it. I've always associated Creole with Louisiana, so now I've got to go look that up a bit more.

As far as Wikipedia is concerned *giggle* (not allowed to use them anywhere else) you're right about it being a lingua franca.
August 30th, 2012
@michelleyoung - Cheers Michelle and thanks for the fave :)

@hellcat - I was the same until I first headed over to PNG and discovered a world of language!
August 30th, 2012
This is a Fav for me. You have a great eye!!!
September 2nd, 2012
@aprilmilani - Thanks April, thank you :)
September 2nd, 2012
Man, these volcano shots are great. I would like to be sat on that beach. Also Patrick is a fine model.
September 5th, 2012

September 20th, 2012
@agentzuckerguss - I placed him in the water after... hopefully that is where he wanted to be!
