Bensbach White Bellied Sea Eagle by bobfoto

Bensbach White Bellied Sea Eagle

photo 620
Every second tree along the wandering Bensbach River had a White Bellied Sea Eagle or two. These are a gorgeous bird and have a lazy attitude to flying, everything seems deliberate yet relaxed. I am a big fan of these.

The river was also full of crocodiles and as we weaved down the river in our little boat, Crocodiles would slink off the bank and splash into the water. They cared not for slipping silently away, they jumped in with aplomb. Perhaps they were hoping the waves would capsize out little boat and we would all become lunch? There was a little panic when one of my travelling companions did fall into the water, we reached in and grabbed him and got him back on the boat in quick time. All of us wondering if one of those great reptiles were beneath.

Photo taken 7 September 2008.

I cannot ever see myself willingly climbing into a little boat to float down a river full of crocodiles. You, sir, are one seriously adventurous soul. :-) (Love this shot.)

so many wonderful sights along the river, I love sea eagles
I was always happy to be in a substantial boat when in croc filled rivers in the NT

@lbmcshutter - Our Barra Boat was less than substantial, but it was quick!

yikes! if i had fallen out of the boat with crocks around me i would have left a mess in the water!! HAHA. that is krazy. These birds look stunning. The hook on his beak and the dark eye...gorgeous!
posted September 13th, 2012
@kdimagery - I wonder if the mess would have attracted or repelled the Crocs?

@bobfoto HAHAHAHA! that made me laugh out loud. That is a very good question!!!!

Oh my gosh you have had some adventures...! How did your friend fall in? Beer? This is a great shot
(I know I've had a manic week but surely I didn't miss so many of your shots.. did you do a mass upload?!)
posted September 15th, 2012
@monkeykid - Thanks Therese, the moody sky opened up and poured rain on us later. But rain and 30ÂșC weather is always nice!

@filsie65 - My friend was sitting on the front of the boat as we were slowly trawling along, catching some big fish, and the driver ran into a sunken tree, which stopped the boat. My friend waved his arms around to try and stay upright, but he overbalanced and sploosh, in he went. I was closest so I reached in and gave him a hand to climb back on board. And no, no mass upload. Just your manic week!
