Olgeta watchim soccer long Skul bilong William Metpi

Let me see... so far this year, you have seen Bougainville, East and West New Britain, New Ireland, Oro Province, Central, Western, East Sepik and Sundaun Province... there's been a shot from Milne Bay and Morobe, and Eastern Highlands. A few to go...

This is from Manus, the most Northern Province of PNG, way up by the equator, a little island that Australia uses to process Asylum Seekers, well they did once and plan on doing it again.

We checked into the Harbourside Hotel at Lorengau and took a look around, went to the markets and checked out the roast Turtle, the roast Cuscus, and the roast Wallaby. We heard the Chauka bird sing its song of joy, what a gorgeous riot of noise!

We chatted to the Hotel staff and we were Tourist numbers 8, 9 and 10 for the year and it was November! Their business consisted of electrical contractors, telecommunications contractors, road contractors and local level government politicians.

It took a great deal of work to get them to cater for us tourists, but eventually we got a bus up into the mountains of Manus where we watched a soccer match played on a turfless patch of red clay high up in the wet jungle. Everyone was there and it was cool just to hang for a while. My GF even got to cuddle a baby Cuscus, stinky little thing it was.... it was someone's pet and when it was big enough, they were going to eat it. My GF almost didn't give the poor thing back. It was cute, but stinky.

I like this candid street shot, mainly because of the backdrop, how dense and how green is that jungle? The red clay enriched with iron was forever wet and just a perfect growing environment. Just spectacular!

Photo taken 25 November 2007. Title reads: Everyone watching the soccer at William Metpi School.

Our dirt looks like this so it doesn't seem all that strange to me but the jungle we don't have! Beautiful color, Jason! Nice candid of the soccer crowd!

Damn, look at the colour of that photo. Zing! I've been missing your photos. No time to comment or even take a photo at times. There is not enough hours in the day. The candidness of this photo is great. though. Love the look of the little boy. He looks familiar. Have you taken a photo of him before?

My favorite part about this photo is the interchange between father and son (?) and how tender and candid it appears to be. That moment they seemed to share something special and you caught it.
