Liklik balus i go buggerup long Fishos

One day I am driving through the busy streets of Port Moresby and up in the air, I see this plane cruising along at a low level across the city skyline. I think to myself "that guy is low and not on a regular flight path" and then I see the Police Helicopter in hot pursuit of the plane. I think "that's odd too".

A few minutes later, I see the same aerial duo flying over the harbour in the opposite direction. Something is up.

And a few minutes later again I see the plane being chased by the Police helicopter.

"These Papuan New Guineans have gone mad" I mumbled to myself...

So I pay a few bills in town and get back in my car and hit the local radio station to see if I can pick up on any news about why the police were chasing the little plane, and I discover over the next few days of news paper articles, internet, teev and local word-of-mouth that two guys dressed up as Guards, hi-jacked this plane full of cash and gold and took off for Fisherman's Island where there once was a runway during World War Two. The two hapless pilots (An Aussie and a Kiwi, I believe) were tied naked to a coconut tree after damaging the plane's engine on landing. One of the propellors is bent on the right.

The two thieves then loaded up their booty into a waiting Banana Boat for a trip back to the mainland, where a waiting 4WD was there to pick them up. The loot was then going to be driven back into town for distribution. They figured that this mix-and-match transportation would throw the police off the trail.

They just didn't expect the driver of the 4WD to totally confess to the first police road block he came to on the only road back into town, just outside a police barracks.

So the plane was going no where, until it got repaired and therefore the owners hired professional security (real ones this time) staff to sit and keep guard over the aircraft until repairs could be carried out.

So for a few weeks, on a rock, in the middle of the Pacific, these guys sat around in the only shade there was and waiting for a mechanic.

@grizzlysghost - Cheers Aaron, the story makes it here. Away from the words, this is just a photo of a plane in a paddock with some guys sitting under it.

Wonderful!
December 7th, 2012
I suppose you are right about the photo just being guys under a plane, but the tarp tells us something different is happening. Your wild story backs it up.

Sounds like something out of a cartoon with all the backwards and forwards flying!

I didn't notice the guys sitting in the shade until I had red the story, makes me think of the robbery gone wrong and comedy of errors that was "Two hands" with the late great Heath Ledger
December 10th, 2012
@lbmcshutter - Heath Ledger's best work... his career imho went downwards after his debut.
December 10th, 2012
@bobfoto I think it is my favourite too, although I am partial to the rom-com "10 things I hate about you", but that is probably more of a chick fave
December 10th, 2012
@lbmcshutter - yeah nah, I'll give that one a miss....
December 10th, 2012
