Wanpela moa bus wokabaut long Boera

One of my last shots from Papua New Guinea, and one of my faves. My time was coming to an end, and every journey was full of goodbyes. I had announced that it may have been my last visit to Boera Village (seen in my project many times now) and everyone wanted to come on a walk with me.

Up on top of this hill was a gun emplacement from WW2 and here the view was really cool. I was comfortable at this stage with my DSLR and its lens, and I went for a nice sharp shot of this lad, his red water container and the green and blue background.

I'm digging the depth in this shot.

Photo taken 14 December 2008. Title says: One more bushwalk at Boera.
I'm digging this too

amazing jd! :) for sure a masterpiece! :)
December 18th, 2012
@bobfoto yes! The grass grows all thick and uneven like that, and there are flat sections like in your photo. Switch out that water for some snowy peaks and your there. I'll try to find you a pic later

Amazing depth and vivid colors! All the elements come together perfectly & make a fantastic portrait!
December 18th, 2012

@anggav @turning_40 @lily - Thanks ladies, this was kinda a crazy shot, because we were all part of a big group of people, maybe 40 of us, all wandering over the hills and I saw this guy just standing off to one side, and he had taken a drink out of his red bucket, and a few steps in front of him, I turned and raised the camera. He was about to walk back into the group, but saw my camera and he paused and posed like this. I fired the shot, shot him a smile of thanks and we re-joined the march. It all happened in a few moments.

@abhijit - Thanks Abhijit :)

@sam_cr - Thanks Sam!

@geocacheking - In the wet season when the rain comes, Moresby and surrounds becomes such a better place, the rain washes the shit off the streets and the burnt brown hills come back to life, and the people are happy because they get corn and peanuts to eat. Happy Days!

@agentzuckerguss - Thanks Katia :)

@5unflow3r - I'm starting to see that now... if I ever return to this spot, I'll look for some Edelweiss. ;)

@jgilker @dalboy @lfrans - Thankyouthankyouthankyou all :D

Awesome bright colors in this fabulous view of the land and the sea and the sky. Great portrait to add to it all!
December 18th, 2012
Great view and the red really sets it off.
December 18th, 2012
Those clouds make a magnificent backdrop for this beautiful scene. The land is different here - no trees, and reminds me of photos I've seen of Easter Island. The trees there were all chopped down due to overpopulation.
December 19th, 2012
Those colours are so bright and is his hat too small?
December 19th, 2012
@grammyn @tigerdreamer @rvwalker @kjarn - Thanks everyone, and yes a great group of colours! I think his hat is a bit small but PNGeans don't care about fit when it looks cool. And yes, deforestation has occurred here.
December 19th, 2012
Fantastic shot! The depth, colors, composition are all perfect.
December 19th, 2012
@boatpainter - Thanks Janet. :D
December 19th, 2012
Thats a beauty, its so rich and deep in colour.
December 19th, 2012
@michelleyoung - Why thank you Michelle :)
December 20th, 2012
Love the way you've framed him against the sea--the blues, greens and pop of red are fabulous together.
December 25th, 2012
@worldbiking - such a quick almost off the hip shot! So pleased with the result!
December 25th, 2012
Perfect shot in so many ways, but it’s the color that really blows me away. There is no greater artist than Mother Nature. (That’s my recessive hippie gene showing.)
December 26th, 2012
@lisjam1 - You are so true though!
December 26th, 2012
Wonderful shot - just so perfect altogether and kind of apt for the PNG experience.. a bit of colour, a heap of depth and a smile under that blue sky.
December 28th, 2012
@filsie65 - Thanks Phil :)
December 28th, 2012
:) I like the crispness... and it feels very much alive.
January 3rd, 2013
@hellcat - Thanks Hellcat, it was a pretty hot day, with the humidity just creeping out of that green green grass!

It's pretty damn cool.
