December 20th, 2012

December 20th, 2012
ahhh NZ word for thongs...
"the combination of thongs or flip flops worn in conjunction with socks" Please tell me you dont wear socks with your thongs?! LOL!
December 20th, 2012
@sam_cr - I've been told if I wore some jandles, my soles would be okay... sheah right....
December 20th, 2012
@sam_cr - socks are involved? It just keeps getting a whole world of bad

Almost looks like a b&w...but i know that's the colour of the sand.
Even Paul doesn't call them jandles....only thongs and eskies here!!!!

So sad. But a fascinating photo.
December 20th, 2012
I have only found one or two in all the times I've walked on a beach- and they were tiny!! These look huge. So interesting to see so many!
December 20th, 2012
That does seem like a lot of dead starfish in one location. Eerie photo.
December 20th, 2012
@onie - my point exactly! BnW photography takes the life away... See here for a colour starfish: http://365project.org/bobfoto/365/2012-08-27

@alia_801 - they are pretty cool... sad that they've beached themselves though :(

@agentzuckerguss :(

@johnnyfrs - they sure do Mr Plonker.

@grammyn - same here, and that is why I stopped to take a shot.

@archaeofrog - thanks Katie. :(

@olivetreeann - they're the size of a small dinner plate... just like this one here: http://365project.org/bobfoto/365/2012-08-27

@swguevin - Odd how they've all washed up in the one location? Never heard of the locals eating them...
December 20th, 2012
@bobfoto Thought perhaps the locals toss them out of their fishing nets onto the sand. I don't know the area, but could see how such a thing would be discarded because it isn't eaten.
December 20th, 2012
@swguevin - you might be onto something there.... hmmm?
December 20th, 2012
I think I would have picked them all up and kept them
December 20th, 2012
Awwwww now thats sad :( Brilliant shot though
December 20th, 2012
@bobfoto They are larger than the ones I've found- which were no larger in diameter than the top of a soup can.

Now last night I saw an odd programme about quirks in nature (are you sitting comfortably?) They found loads and loads of starfish washed up on a beach (I mean hundreds) and concluded that they mated in shallow water then a big unusual wave swept them up onto the shore where they were too tired (post-mating) to do anything about it so slowly died. Made me feel very sorry for them, but I guess if they went quickly they might have gone smiling..?

@filsie65 - perhaps a big unusual wave happened here?
