Narapela Bataplai bilong Varirata

One last teeny tiny Butterfly before Christmas. This was taken with my kit lens, so just the 150mm and I was new to stalking the bugs. I kinda liked the approach, getting quite close only for the b'fly to alight as soon as I lifted my camera to my eye. Or in other moments, the b'fly would stay still until my auto-focus would beep, and then the b'fly would take off.

Grrrr!

@andycoleborn - Hey thanks Andy C, so far its been a pretty decent Festive Season. Don't want to peak too early though! Might go to the local for a pint this arve though. Enjoy the season Andy!

@kjarn - Some are really flighty and never sit still, but I think in the dank forests they sometimes like to sit in a sunny spot to dry off and warm up!

@daisy - Thanks Kathryn :)

@swilde - I thought the focus was a bit off, so I kinda processed this one to look a bit more "painterly"

Another good butterfly photo. It looks like it is after some minerals other critters have "deposited" on the leaf.

It's like walking around in the butterfly pavilions! Which is our little butterfly house cause this is cold and dry until summer, then it's hot and dry.

@hellcat - I once went to a Butterfly Farm in Madang, it was gorgeous. There was no enclosure, they just planted butterfly favourites for them to hang out on.... if you plant them, they will come.

I don't know that it's safe for them in my yard. I have a tree that serves a ton of bees during the summer months. (The tree hums during July if all goes well with the bees.) Hey and a small little research study was done (and they will obviously need to recheck their results) but this study suggested it was the radio signals from electronic devices killing off the bees. Anyways...so the tree hums from the bees, but it also attracts some nasty and aggressive wasps too. I'd be sad if I led a bunch of butterflies to their deaths.

I want to keep the bees and lose the wasps. BTW, that's a very pretty birdie pic...
