A Perfect Stranger - Ower's Corner

Chapter Nineteen continues.

Life is Hectic.

Had some friends in town so we wandered up to Ower's Corner which is the start of the Kokoda Track at the southern end. At the end of the road and the start of the track, you will find a 25 pounder canon, a memorial of sorts and a Ranger who will weigh your bags and send you on your way into the abyss.

I also met a car load of perfect strangers, six really drunk Bougainvilleans just cruising around Port Moresby and checking out the sights. They were drinking some home brew and they were pretty messy.

But they were friendly and happy and a delight to chat to, although their words were a little slurred. My pidgin won votes and got laughs and they were happy to have their photo taken.

I have found a wee weakness in my new point and shoot. It really over compensates for focusing on the dark skin of the bukan and well as you can see, the background is blown out of the water, BUTTTTT, I kinda dig the appeal when you look at this poor guys eyes and red lips and think man that is one massive hangover in the making.

A Perfect Stranger a loooong way from home.

to be continued...
He certainly does look worse for wear.

Learning something new everyday. No idea Bougainville was a place. Glad someone aced you, you deserve it. I thank that person too, he/she did us a favor by expanding your reach.

Yep that will be one massive hangover all right!! Excellent portrait of this drunken soul. Lovin the washed out background.

Love the photo/ stories! The photo does seem befitting his condition!! Great capture.

Oh dear look at his eyes! Walking and talking though, so still has some mileage in him. Happy drunks are great. The other kind are bad news. Maybe your camera has a 'find face' option in the focussing or similar. My point and shoot does - and then it will expose for the face and not the overall picture. RTM :-)

He does look a little the worse for wear. I bet he's suffering today. I don't think I've ever seen eyes quite that red.
April 21st, 2013
Bless his heart. Great shot, Jason.

Neat portrait. He does look a little overwhelmingly glassy eyed.
April 21st, 2013
Great portrait. He is definitely not going to be feeling well in the morning.
April 22nd, 2013
He seriously looks like a huge headache in the making for the morning. I don't envy him.
April 22nd, 2013
Oh Boy! I'm glad I'm looking through this side of his eyes and not the view he has.
April 22nd, 2013
@ptowncook @daisy @geocacheking @swilde - I hope he's okay...
April 22nd, 2013
wow- this shot brings back all kinds of memories. That is how my father-in-law used to look when I first met my husband's family. Thankfully it is not how he looks now. You're right the shortcomings of the camera actually work well in this shot.
April 22nd, 2013
@olivetreeann - Oh I am glad your FIL no longer looks like this guy!
April 22nd, 2013
He's still kind of crazy but he is no longer drinking.
