G'Hoppers by bobfoto

G'Hoppers

Chapter 50 continued.

In the Garden.

A classic Greco-Roman move called the Pincer, these two G'hoppers were fighting in my garden. I filmed the making of this photo-shoot but it didn't work out how I wanted.... maybe next time.

Wonder what Bear Grylls would do?

I'm off back under my rock to sleep the rest of the day away.
Bear Gryllis would eat them.

hell its no frog and it ain't no tomato!
July 7th, 2013
Such sharp, clear, incredible details! Their facial expressions don't look like they're enjoying themselves much. If we could only listen in to that g-hopper conversation.
July 7th, 2013
@karenmatthews - might be quite boring....

"You alright?
Yeah.
Can you shift that leg of yours?
Huh?
That leg, its jabbing me.
Sorry... how's that?
Better, thanks."
July 7th, 2013

July 7th, 2013

July 7th, 2013
Wow, they are not pretty up-close... but very interesting capture
July 7th, 2013
@lily - something from a sci-fi movie?
July 7th, 2013
Oh, those two lovebirds in the night ;). Nicely caught, especially effective against that black!
July 7th, 2013
@jannaellen - early morning daylight in shade, but the ringflash just made the backdrop disappear, to which I'm not too concerned.
July 7th, 2013
Great capture.
July 7th, 2013
@chris17 - heh heh Thanks Christine.
July 7th, 2013

July 7th, 2013
@teenerweener - nor Zebras.
July 7th, 2013
Were you goading them on, too?
July 7th, 2013
@will_wooderson - nope, playing them some Elvis.
July 7th, 2013
Great shot! Though the one on top looks a little disapproving of you capturing their balancing tricks on camera. Didn't you see the 'No photographs' sign? :)
July 7th, 2013
Fantastic shot, Jason. Wow, what great details!
July 7th, 2013
Not fighting. DISCOVERY CHANNEL!!!!! :-)
July 7th, 2013
*oh!* They are rather beautiful up-close.. look at all those patterns. Not sure about the red bits sticking up, I think they are doing it wrong, perhaps that's why they look glum...
July 7th, 2013
great
July 7th, 2013
I think Bear would eat them ....
July 7th, 2013
@alia_801 - he must have had his hands full to be holding up the sign?

@sangwann - Cheers Dione.

@tabbycat - I thort that was mammals?

@filsie65 - they always look glummy.

@snipsnap - thanks.

@ch1ppy_m1nton - yup.
July 7th, 2013
They look awesomely huge.
July 7th, 2013
Fantastic detail! If you can do this well under the weather you are really skilled!
July 7th, 2013
ooooh!
July 7th, 2013
@sebella - they are big ones.

@grammyn - the camera is not sick... I just point the thing.

@houdiniem - Eeeeeee.
July 7th, 2013
@bobfoto LOL1 it still requires a manipulator!
July 7th, 2013
@grammyn - you mean a finger? That's not full of snot.
July 7th, 2013
@bobfoto LOL!!! Yes and someone to envision the shot and execute! Quit being so hard on yourself! ;~}
July 7th, 2013
@grammyn - I'm not. I see a science in photography. Especially in shots like this. I've built my camera to take these kind of photos. The right lenses, the right flash. I use the same setting in this shot, that I did in the Goroka sing-sing shot. The lenses and the camera make the difference.
July 7th, 2013
@bobfoto Well this novice appreciates your skill.
July 7th, 2013
@grammyn - thank you. My finger says thanks too. ;)
July 7th, 2013

July 7th, 2013
Wow!
July 7th, 2013
The conversation between them made me burst out laughing. Fabulous details, wonderful shot!
July 8th, 2013
They look like statures or metal carvings -- amazing shot.
July 8th, 2013
There must be a female grasshopper somewhere nearby.
July 8th, 2013
@carolmw - Thanks for the fav Carol. I nearly swore then???

@tabbycat - Greco-Roman.

@princesicita - Thanks.

@masosy - Then that would be BOL?

@taffy - just little bugs.

@tooki - yeahhhhh... nothing more to see here...
July 8th, 2013
They just don't look real! Almost look robotic! Such a fantastic shot. Fav
July 8th, 2013
@shepherdmanswife - that's ummm right, my robotic grasshopper army that I am breeding... ;)
July 8th, 2013
Great capture. FAV.
July 9th, 2013
@anazad511 - Thanks Ana.
July 9th, 2013
Jo
Just love all the details on these beauties, so well captured as always.
July 9th, 2013
did not mean to imply that. just never entered my mind to pick up an insect and move it is what i meant. you must have the talent, equipment, foresight, skill and foresight to get the shots. you do. i am not there as of yet.
July 9th, 2013
@catsmeowb - I was being a little facetious in my response. My apologies too. Having said that... I tried making a behind-the-scenes video of this shot and in the footage you can see my finger just encouraging this couple to stay put in the right position.
July 9th, 2013
@jo13 - Thank you Jo. (sorry 'bout my previous response...)
July 9th, 2013
I hope they're fighting because the thought of them making more of them is kind of squirmy - so is Bear Gryll's solution to the potential grasshopper over-population problem.
July 10th, 2013
@kittikat - the world needs more Grylls?
July 12th, 2013
Awesome detail and comp
July 18th, 2013
@colie - thank you, went looking for some more before.
July 19th, 2013
I'm fascinated by their eyes, they seem armor plated and camouflaged with the rest of their bodies.
July 22nd, 2013
@talea - I think the eyes are weakness.
July 22nd, 2013
I their belly side was, but don't know. Not as many grasshopers here lately.
July 22nd, 2013
@talea - you may be right.... that belly looks soft and squishy!
July 22nd, 2013
:(
I really wasn't thinking straight today....
July 23rd, 2013
@talea - that's okay, we all have our moments.
July 23rd, 2013
thanks.
July 23rd, 2013
@talea - welcome.
