Jiwaka Sing Sing

The joy of taking only the 70-300mm telephoto lens is I can take a shot from a distance and sometimes not draw attention and the festival performers just keep on keeping on, but then and every now and then my 6ft tall whiteness draws attention and a performer will stop and pose. It is at this moment that I take a shot at 70mm, then another at around 130mm then 200mm and then 300mm.

This guy was awesome. Great beard.

Photo taken a day or so ago at Constitutional Park, Port Moresby.
I hope you are eventually going to do a book of these Sing Sing images.

@mcrt - I shot 600 keepers in the past week and I covered pretty much every performer I could find.... there's at least a brochure amount of images there! ;)

@bobfoto It is great that you are capturing this history. So much of the traditional style has been lost and you are able to see it while it is still going on. Kind of like what Edward Curtis was doing a century ago in the US.

AMAZING photo! :)

@kali66 - those people might hunt me down if I turn a profit eh? And his headdress was just asking for framing like this.

@grammyn - Thank you Katy, portraiture is easy when you have guys like this stand still in the sun for you!

@mcrt - I do like the work of Edward Curtis and I wish I had the option of setting up some poses like he did...

@juliedduncan - Thanks Julie :)

Fav! Must put port moresby on next trip planner- just back from vanuatu and need more culture. Sydney just doesn't offer this splendour:-(

I never tire of these. How do you get so in there? Long lens? Good zoom or just in their faces? When do you officially go? Fav.

That eyes really tell a thousand stories..
July 9th, 2014
This is just fantastic! Total Fav!

@amandal - focal length of 252mm suggests I could have zoomed in a little more. I was standing around 20-30ft away.

@agentzuckerguss - Thanks Katia :)

@aj1268 - Thanks Paula and awesome to see you around.
