From the Mountains

Papua New Guinea is an anthropological land of amazement. Even for the novice like I, one can see evolution in place because of direct involvement with the environment. Physiques formed by thousands of years living amongst mountains or on coral islands or in swampy lagoons or amongst fertile valleys.

It's people continue to amaze.

Photo taken back in early July at the Melanesian Festival. This guy from the Mountains of New Guinea.
What a fabulous portrait that conveys both character and culture. He has quite a stare -- it's a little unnerving but conveys power well.

Fabulous portrait, Jason! I remember thinking the same thing in the mts. of Peru/Ecuador. Wide splayed feet from going barefoot from day one, larger hearts to handle the high elevation, incredible stamina in hiking the switchback trails, etc. The people are amazing!

Your close-up portraits are all really stunning... this guy looks so intense. I imagine life in the mountains isn't all laid back and easy-going...
