Moment of Impact

The great aspect of this entire sing-sing performance was the natural back drop of the Simpson Harbour, the compound made of palm leaves for the Duk Duks and the Volcano. Then this guy parks his truck in the background. Knob.

See yesterday's photo, but this is the moment when one of the canes strikes this young man on the raised wrist. The next shot on the roll shows a massive explosion of dust and a falling over assailant. You can make out another kneeling young man about to be struck in the background.

This was uncomfortable viewing.

Photo taken last week in Rabaul.
wow! that focus you got there is to die for, jason! so sharp and vivid! beautiful lines and colours. it's just wow!

@summerfield - Thank you for the fave :) I find it easier when performers are stationary as opposed to dancing around... but then again, I'd take dancing happy people anyway over this confrontational performance.

This would definitely be hard for me to see. Is there some sort of rite of passage in being able to withstand this beating? In spite of the tragic circumstances it is an amazing capture.

@olivetreeann - it was an after-performance of the Tolai initiation ceremony which involved the Duk Duks. I was a tad confused and I didn't expect this performance... a bonus?

Wouldn't like to see the hitting! I can sympathise about the parked car. It's usually a person in the way for me!

@chris17 - I'm hoping I got into all the background shots of this media guy!
