Grimston's Oak by boxplayer

Grimston's Oak

Also seems to be known as Bedford's Oak - in Epping Forest - a fine tree estimated to be about 350 years old.

Sunny intervals today and we were up early to do the first walk in my Short Walks Around Epping Forest book - 3 miles from Chingford station up through Warren Wood and back round via the impressive Grimston's (or Bedford's) Oak and across Chingford Plain to the car which we'd parked uncertainly in a road close to the golf course. The road had a very faded, almost-gone single yellow line so suspected we'd be OK.

Was lovely getting out and stretching the legs: lots of bird song - had the binoculars but didn't catch much as the foliage is so thick now. Also tried to identify the flowers we came across. On the way back, stopped off at the Tesco Express in Chingford's main street. Queued for a short time only before being let in. A well stocked little supermarket, I picked up the rest of mum's stuff and some reduced tiger prawns that needed eating today. Home to a toasty brunch in the garden.

Then just stayed out there reading for a bit. Received my other sister's late birthday present of pretty Iittala dessert bowls. Did a late lunch of garlicky prawns in chilli, coriander, lime and garlic. Very yummy. And a G&T also.

Later, Dave did burritos with veggie mince for supper - so much food we're eating now - and we decided to watch the first Lord of the Rings film - Fellowship of the Ring. So long - I have to admit I drifted off during the battle scenes.
