Look Sharp

Sharpening ice skates for a temporary outdoor rink in Huntington Beach. The ice is actually hard white plastic.
Wow - those sparks are amazing...I can't even remember the last time I was on ice skates (especially since I've been living in the boondocks of the desert)...this is good info to have!! :)

ohhhhhhh iceless ice skating! i got to try that. I checked out the rinks here in Orlando and they are all indoor ice rinks. I love ice skating but I do not like the cold ice and getting wet when I fall. It would be so nice to be outdoors and ice skate

Awesome shot,well captured!

I have skated on hard white plastic before. It takes some time to get use to the seams. I remember my skates loosing there edges rapidly. That was a few years ago and I am sure they make the plastic ice better today.

Cool shot Brad! I didn't know there was a rink like this around here?! I'll have to Google it and see if I can get my kids down there before it closes this season. I think they would enjoy it better than the cold ice we tried once! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Thanks for your comments, friends. :)

@shawnanne - This little rink is set up on 5th Street in Huntington Beach, right across from the pier. I think it's open through the end of the month.

I have never heard of plastic skating rinks - only in CA!

Nice sparks!

California plastic rinks....Texas plastic snowmen....guess we don't live in the right places when it comes to the real cold white stuff at Christmas, huh? Cool shot, I love the sparkiness! :)

@jennylee - I grew up in the real cold white stuff in Northern California. When I spent a December day in 1981 on the beach in shorts and a t-shirt, I knew I was home. :)

@bradsworld lol, I agree. I lived in Chicago for four years when I was young and got a lifetime of snow then....I'm good for another ....oh 60 years or so!

Plastic ice makes your whisky taste funny.

I've always wondered if that was easy to skate on!
