Zooming

So this was taken with my 75-300mm zoom lens which I bought the last time I did the 365 project back in 2012. I’ve always looked on it as quite a shite lens as it’s slow to focus, has no IS and is damn heavy. However, I thought I’d take it out today just to take a couple of shots in the garden to see how it fared. The images looked awful and I couldn't figure out why the images were so light with no contrast in them. Well mystery solved. It has a uv filter on it which I must have put on back in 2012 to protect it. I didn’t have a clue about filters then and actually still don’t! So when I took it off the colours were so much better and vibrant. Result! And yes, I could have taken this photo with my normal lens but the dof it so much better on this one.
Nice! What is the plant? It's an amazing blossom, almost brush like.

@casablanca Now there's a question! I just about know what a rose looks like. It's a tree. That's as much as I can tell you. Sorree :/

Ha ha, you're as good as me! I would probably say "it the pink spiky one" and my mum would immediately reel off the Latin name for it!

Lovely capture. I hate my 70-300mm for the same reasons. Way too heavy and no IS. I've taken to using it only with my tripod and a cable release now. I'm getting better results but still, it's not my lens of choice.

@paul10 I honestly thought that I could capture squirrels and such with it but no such luck as squirrels and fast and jerky and this is slow slow slow 😊
