YES.... WE'RE OK. by bruni

YES.... WE'RE OK.

Yesterday afternoon returning from an engagement in Toronto we that is my daughter Grace and I were involved in a hit and run accident on the busy Hwy 401. the roads were wet and very slippery and the traffic was heavy. (we heard later on the radio that there were numerous accidents on the 401 due to weather conditions and extreme heavy traffic.) this happened on a 4 lane with another one turning off to the express lane. it all happened so fast but we think this huge 18 wheeler was trying to pass us at the last moment to get over to the express lane and nicked my daughter's car on the back end of the driver's side. we were in the 4th lane and spun around three times and ended up hitting the cement wall dividing the north and south lanes. an angel must have been looking out for us. we were surprised that unbelieveably there were no other cars involved. just think of it.. we could've been hit again or or pumped into other cars. mind you Grace was so shook up that she didn't know how to call the police. poor girl.. she said later she was so afraid of going straight for the wall and wondering if her seatbelt would hold her from going through the window. my thoughts were after the second spin the passenger side would hit the wall so I automatically lean away from the door..later Grace said to me it's great to know that your heart medication is working pretty good as she was wondering if my heart would go into atrial fillibration again. anyway we were not sitting there too long before a tow truck showed up with his blinking lights flashing. he parked in front of us and in the heavy rain got out of this truck and came to the car winow to see if we were ok or needed any immediate assistance. Grace informed him that the police were on their way and he of course waited it out as he figured we needed a tow anyway. the police officer asked some questions and made the tow driver hitch up her car and take us to a police station's lot. once there we sat in his truck for at least for an hour while finally a police car arrived but the officer didn't come out instead he sat in his vihicle with his cell phone to his ear. finally after what seemed like for ever he came and told us that someone had seen the accident and went after the truck to get the license plate. thank God for that. so the police were trying to find out who drove the truck while we were sitting waiting. well they couldn't find him so Grace had to fill out a report and the tow truck driver said to the police officer that he thinks she can drive home. (otherwise they would have impounded her car over the weekend and we would'ev no way of getting home.) so while on our way Grace asked me if I was really ok. well after mentioning that my neck hurt and also my back she insisted we both get checked out and so we stopped at the nearest walk in clinic . Grace was ok with just a bit of stiffness but it looked like I was in more pain and was sent for x rays. the x rays were ok but a couple of sessions of physiotherapy and some massages wouldn't hurt they said.
the 911 call to the police was at 1.30 pm and we finally arrived home at about 7 pm with only one stop at a Tim Horton's for coffee.
btw. Grace's car is becoming an oldie..a Mazda MX 6 I believe also called Mazda Mystere. she just recently had a new engine put in and a complete new paint job done.
we were lucky the damage wasn't as bad as expected and can be repaired. she just loves this car and there are not many around she says. in fact I've never seen another one in all my travels.
My goodness Bruni what a scare! I hope typing it all out has helped in some sort of way! These things happen in an instant and it sounds like it could have been a whole load worse!! Hope you and your daughter continue on ok. Bit extreme to get a 365 photo though!! best wishes...

@Cherrill thank you Cherrill for the comment. yes it was scarey and we still can't believe that we got away almost unhurt..there must have been a gap around us. we don't know if all the cars had time to get out of our way as it was said on account of so much construction going on in the cite (they are also extending the subway line in some parts) the traffic has been heavy 24/7 not just like in the rush hours. yes writing this and talking about it has helped. as they say our time wasn't up yet.

OM gosh! you are soooo lucky it turned out the way it did. could have been so much worse. josh was in an accident once, was only going 35 miles an hour and hit a tree. broke his leg, very clean, but got was called impact blisters. those caused an infection that lead to a bone infection and he almost lost his leg! 3 inches of bone loss, muscles from his back into his leg, and 18 operations. never know what can happen in the blink of an eye. but, came home one day and this beautiful blond was sitting on his lap while he was in his wheelchair - that is his wife, holly. she had come to hang out while her boyfriend was out getting drunk and i guess she liked josh better!

Glad you are both ok. and hope you can get some PT and be well..

Glad both of you are okay. I was the victim of a hit-and-run about four years ago. Someone pulled out in front of me and kept going after I hit the side of their truck. Thankfully, two angels who witnessed the accident went after the other driver and helped police catch up to them. The accident nearly totaled my car, but I was grateful that I was not hurt.
