Rain an more rain by bruni

Rain an more rain

This morning and most of last night it rained. when I looked outside this morning, I thought what am I going to take a picture of. well, that's when I saw the reflection of our lovely red maple tree and some water running down from the roof of the car; also a red maple leaf. selective coloring, I think not.
Well spotted

So creative!

Great observation. We've been short of rain, so I enjoy seeing yours.

Nice shot, Bruni. Love the reflection that you captured. We are starting mandatory state wide conservation on Friday. Watering the grass and shrubs 2 x weekly and if any standing water in the gutters, you can be fined up to $500 a day. Hoping for rain after the heat of this Summer is over.

@darsphotos Hi Darlene. what do they mean by standing water in the gutters? don't quite understand it. pls. explain.

Love that single, little leaf on the screen.

Yep, we have been getting here as well and it looks like we have another day or so

@bruni When watering our front lawn with our sprinkler system, water will go onto our sidewalk, then off the sidewalk and into the gutter. In our case once it hits the gutter, it moves down the street slowly into the drain but not all have this happening so the water sits till it dries up in the gutter. Fines will be given out and more will be patrolling and making sure people are abiding by the law. Meter maids will be able to give out tickets and so will those that are hired to do so. Many people are hand watering and using sprinklers on hoses to keep the water on their lawns and plants only. My neighbor is ok to do this on a regular basis and looks like I will have to so not to get fined as a little water does remain in our gutter till it dries and down the street when I use our sprinkler system. I have our sprinkler system set at 2am for 5 minutes per station, lawns and shrubs water in sequence, so it waters during the coolest part of the day. Also the price of water has been going up and we are metered so they can tell if there is an increase in usage or decrease. Trying to use as little as possible inside our house and trying to keep our yard alive as it would cost a fortune to replace lawn and plants. Some are going to rock with low maintenance plants but that is so expensive to do. My Mom concreted in her front yard. Hoping for a lot of rain in the near future though not likely. I hope my long explanation answers your question. I also hope this drought ends this year.

@darsphotos I understand, our systems run more or less the same. I knew what gutter were (we call them ditches) just couldn't believe they find you if the gutters show water in them. what happens to people that have problems that the gutter doesn't empty because another one or two down the road are plugged. not fair to you to pay a fine for that. we do have where we can only water our plants on even or uneven days corresponding with your house number. mind you we don't have such extreme heat as you have. this year our summer has been fairly cool so far except for some odd days where it was over 30 with the humidity it felt even hotter and we have the air on, but most evenings it cools off and stays nice and cool in the house until late afternoon where I get the sun coming in my two large bay windows in the living room.

We did have a lot of it too. Many places in Holland did have trouble with it.
Gladly we don`t. only a heavy thunderstorm.
Great capture and reflections

@bruni I was not sure if you knew what gutters are as so many people call things by different names as you do, ditches. I do not know how much water is too much as our neighbor sits just slightly higher than us and sometimes has some water in the gutter. I hope they will give out warnings to first time offenders and nothing much as we do not waste like our county and government do. They seem to flood the streets and water during the heat of the day. We do not have meter maids close by where we live as this is just residential. We are lucky in our development as our drains work well, though we are not that sloped so water can be obvious but not much sitting ever. I do not know how they will keep track of people watering 2 x a week as they have not said we have to stick to certain days like you do. I think it is great that they have you on watering days as that makes people think about watering. Some people are wasteful so many pay the price for them. It has been in the 100's since last Friday so watering is necessary to keep our yards alive. I am running our A/C in the afternoon till late at night and have had to have it on through the night when it is too warm to turn on our house fan to pull cooler air from outside. It is so much cheaper to use our house fan and I use it in the early mornings to cool off our house and attic. You are lucky to have the cool offs you have. We are hit by the sun in the front of our house in the late afternoon so I keep the blinds closed. We live in a rather dark house during the Summer heat. Wishing you cool days ahead. I accidentally put @pyrrula instead of you to respond to, so correcting that right now.

@darsphotos I'm reading your message at 4 am in the morning. spent 6 hours at the ER. Hans is on out of time job, so I was home alone. at around 8m last night I felt unwell. dizzy, hard of breathing and just not right. I took my blood pressure and it was way up, heart beat was slightly elevated. I waited some time and took it again and this time it was even higher and my heart beast was over 120..i usually have around 67 to 72. at that moment the phone rang and it was Hans calling, so of course I told him and he said call 911. well they picked me up and when we got to the hospital Grace was there. Hans must've called her and since she lives in the same town where the hospital is, she was there and stayed the whole 6 hours waiting patiently with me. they were so busy. I told the doctor what happened and he ordered a check x ray and blood work. the blood work along too over 2 1/2 before the results came in. make a long story short. Grace was so exhausted as she is working under stress at her job and needs her sleep badly. to we left the hospital at 3 am and she drove me home and back to her house. she just called to tell me she made it home ok. now I can also hit the sack. glad I was able to tell you as Hans was not reachable. when we called him they always said the customer is unavailable. so I talk to him tomorrow (which of course is later today)

Great catch, Bruni! I love that little lone leaf on the windshield. It does look a little bit like selective coloring! Perhaps the leaf decided it was time to jump from the tree. It was a bit premature of it of course, but maybe it knew you needed a photo!
