Flying into window made me dizzy - Can you identify me

I found this bird in the position of the insert picture not moving for so long. I could even slide the doors open and step towards him and he still didn't budge, sat there like a statue. I stepped back into the room and he turned his head around and looked at me with a quizzical look as to say: who am I and what am I doing here.
can you identify this bird for me. in the small picture he looks like a nuthatch but he is too colorful... more like a finch. I'm really stumped.
A brilliant capture. Fav.

Poor little guy

@thresheg Thank much to much Graham. can you identify this bird?

I've looked at a nuthatch and it tends to be greyon top and pinkish under; the greenfinch which I thought it might be has a stubby bill. I'll keep looking and if I have any luck I'll let you know.

How big is it? Could it be a Yellow Wagtail? The bill, eyestripe and yellow could indicate that, but I've never seen one. For its overall look, silhouette and eyestripe, I'd say Red-breasted Nuthatch--a female that has faded to yellow from her usual cinnamon. The stance sure says Nuthatch, and the bill argues against any kind of finch. If you don't settle on an ID, I can send it to my birding expert friend. Let me know.

Nice one. Shame about it being stunned like that. Was it OK after that? I have no idea what it is, although it resembles the "blue tit" we have in the UK.

Wow. How beautiful they are and how beautiful you have captured him. Fav.

Great shot, Bruni! Fav! I think this is a Red-eyed Vireo. It has the right markings for it. Check this link out http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-eyed_Vireo/id. It is a great bird site and you can identify birds by species (thrush, nuthatch, etc). I've sent it off to my wildlife lady for verification, but this was the only bird I found that had the proper markings. I hope that it was okay after it bumped into the window! Poor thing!!

Great photo Bruni.

I think it's a Vireo, but not a red-eyed- they usually have a very distinct red ring around the eye. They also have a black stripe on the between the white and grey bands on the head. It looks the most like the Warbling Vireo in my one book. But I'm not sure if that's a bird which would be in your area. So let's just give him/her the generic title of Vireo. Great shot! I hope he/she was up and about once the shock wore off!

@olivetreeann @bruni Just wanted to let you ladies know . . . It has been verified by my wildlife contact that it is indeed a Red-eyed Vireo. She said that she hoped the bird was okay after hitting your window.

@olivetreeann @prttblues Thank you my friends. I'll both of them up. I've never seen one here in our area and don't know if I will ever see one again. yes, after some time the bird flew away. thank for so much for looking it up. now that I know the name I can google and take a look.

@mbemis Thank you for your comment, Mannie. the bird has been identified as a Vireo. I'll still have to google him and see what kind.

@bruni Very good, Bruni. As you're zeroing in on the exact ID, be sure to check the Philadelphia Vireo as well. The National Geographic field guide says it is brighter yellow in the fall and that its dark eye stripe distinguishes it from the Warbiing Vireo. We get only Bell's Vireo here, and I rarely see it. Hope the little bird has flown off into the sunset, laughing at us for being so befuddled about its identity.

Lovely pair of pictures. You had a lovely visitor. Katharine

@fishers Thank you Katharine. this beautiful vireo as it was pointed out to me was most likely on the South as we don't have these beautiful songbirds in our area.

@netkonnexion Thank you for your comment and concern. this is a reply from @prttblues Bev: Just wanted to let you know . . . It has been verified by my wildlife contact that it is indeed a Red-eyed Vireo. She said that she hoped the bird was okay after hitting your window.
Yes the little bird flew off shortly after. since we don't have these species here I assume it was on his way South.

@bruni Thanks, Bruni. So glad he/she was okay. I don't think it was headed south. The map on the link I posted above shows that it's breeding in most of your country and half of mine in the summer. Although - I don't know if it hangs around for winter. I think it's cool you found a new bird to watch out for now! The link tells you all you need to know about it. Glad I could help identify it for you and will let my wildlife lady know that it flew off.

Poor thing. We had a bird that would fly into our sliding glass door once in a while and be a bit out of it for a while. I hope this bird was ok. At least it was standing up. Reading above and so glad it flew away. Love your collage and so nice that you were able to find out what type of bird this is.

@bruni Posting this on an older fav. ... Did you see the pic for the 5th? I was so psyched about that one. Hardly any views. I thought that was my best shot this month. I'm a bit bummed. You can delete this after you've read it. Going on my heat now.
