Last Sunday when Grace and I were to visit the Beaches in Toronto but I was late, we decided not to drive all the to Toronto and went instead for a nice long walk down the Nokiidaa Trail in Newmarket.
In today's local paper I found a one page article with the heading Pathway to Peace written by Chris Simon. I copied the first few paragraphs for you. the entire page, although very informative would've been way too much typing. (wish there was a faster way to get it into my comment).
"Winding through forest, under bridges and past some of the natural heritage that has shaped Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwillimbury over the centuries, the 20-kilometer Nokiidaa is becoming a stalwart getaway for anyone looking for a glimpse of peaceful living and safe outdoor recreation in the ever-growing, increasingly urban municipalities of northern York Region.
Nokiidaa follows the East Holland River from Aurora to Holland Landing snaking through municipal parks and greenspaces, wetlands and historic cultural sites".
Aboriginal roots of the name Nokiidaa - a name that translate into the Ojibwa term meaning "walking together".
In Aurora, the next city south of Newmarket, the Nokiidaa is also called the Holland River Valley Trail. It said further in this article that in the future the trail will go as far as Lake Simcoe (the area where we live).
